Why post-mortems improve trading discipline

Use closed positions to find repeatable lessons instead of emotional narratives.

Every closed position is a chance to learn — but only if you review it honestly. Left to memory, wins become proof of skill and losses become bad luck, and neither story teaches you anything. A structured post-mortem replaces those narratives with evidence. The core move in a good post-mortem is separating process from outcome. A well-reasoned bet can lose, and a reckless one can win; the result alone does not tell you whether the decision was good. By judging the quality of your reasoning independently of the outcome, you learn to repeat good process even when variance goes against it, and to stop rewarding luck. A strong review also pins down the assumptions that actually mattered. Which risk note turned out to be the decisive one? Was the edge real, or did the market simply move your way for unrelated reasons? Writing this down converts a single trade into a rule you can apply next time. Over many positions, these lessons compound. Odds Coach's Coach Report gathers them into a longer-term picture of how you decide, so your discipline — not just your bankroll — becomes something you can watch improve.
